Savers thrift store, an international chain with 270 locations across the U.S., Canada and Australia, will open its second store in the greater Chicago area in Naperville, Illinois next week. The new store comes just a month after the first Illinois location opened in Downers Grove, and offers great deals on thousands of unique items while benefiting its nonprofit partner, the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.
The grand opening of its Naperville location will kick off on Thursday, May 19 with an 8:30 am ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Savers executives and the CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, and the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
“We’re thrilled to open our second Illinois location in Naperville and bring even more great deals on quality vintage and modern clothing, home décor, and more to the greater Chicago region,” said David Toscano, the new store manager. “We’re also excited to expand our partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, which will provide additional revenue for the nonprofit organization to deliver vital services at no cost for the more than 125,000 people and their families in the Chicago area living with epilepsy.”
Carrying everything from men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories, to housewares, electronics and furniture, Savers stocks more than 5,000 new items daily and has over 100,000 unique items on the sales floor at any given time, ensuring customers continuously find a refreshed assortment of quality, value goods. At 38,826-square feet, the location will also house a Community Donation Center, providing a convenient place for residents to drop off their reusable clothing and household goods free of charge. Savers pays the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago for every donated item, turning otherwise unused goods into sustainable revenue that supports the Foundation’s programs and services in the local community.
“We’re so pleased that our partnership with Savers has grown to include the new Naperville store. Now we can offer another convenient, yet valuable way our community can support the mission of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago,” said Philip Gattone, President and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. “Through our partnership with Savers, anyone can turn otherwise unused goods into funding for our important work such as education programs for schools, mentor matching that connects people impacted by epilepsy, and running Camp Blackhawk, a week-long camp for kids and teens with epilepsy.”
The new store comes in conjunction with the ever increasing thrift shopping trend, which is one of the fastest growing retail segments. Lifestyle, economy and social trends have contributed to the growth, including the popularity of do-it-yourself projects, renewed interest in vintage clothing, and importantly, environmentally and budget-conscientious consumers. Last year alone, Savers kept more than 500 million pounds of unused goods from ending up in landfills.
Special grand opening activities will continue through Saturday, May 21, including the chance to win one of five $100 Savers gift certificates. The Naperville store and Community Donation Center, located at 204 South Route 59, Naperville, IL, will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
