Greg Grunberg, star of TV shows such as “Felicity,” “Alias,” “Heroes,” and the upcoming NBC Thursday night comedy, “Love Bites”—and co-creator of the popular free national coupon, offer, and announcement application Yowza!!—is partnering with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago to raise ongoing funds for epilepsy support, research, and education.
Grunberg will visit Chicago later this week to kick off the new “Help And Save With Yowza!!” program, which will allow Chicago-based merchants to list their store’s offers and coupons on Yowza!! at a special discounted monthly rate, with 50% of the merchants’ fees going directly to the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. While here, he will also take part in the Foundation’s 11th Annual Greater Chicago Epilepsy 5K, which takes place on the morning of Saturday, May 21 at Chicago’s Montrose Harbor.
Grunberg, whose son has epilepsy, was treated in Chicago at Rush University Medical Center. He is now living a normal life as a freshman in high school due to the extraordinary care he received. Much of the research and education made available to the Grunberg family was a result of his relationship with the Epilepsy Foundation of Chicago and its president, Philip M. Gattone.
For this reason, Grunberg has made a special effort over the years to assist the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. In addition to making personal appearances—such as the Greater Chicago Epilepsy 5K—on behalf of the Foundation, last year, he brought his Band from TV into the city for a concert in front of over 1,000 people at the Vic Theatre to benefit the Foundation. Grunberg hopes the “Help and Save With Yowza!!” program will incentivize the businesses of Chicago to join the thousands of businesses nationally already using his coupon app while at the same time raising much needed ongoing revenue for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.
Grunberg is a true philanthropist and advocate for the cause of epilepsy awareness and research. Band From TV has already donated several million dollars to various charities over the years. And his epilepsy-focused “Talk About It!” initiative, with which he has partnered with the national Epilepsy Foundation, has seen dozens of celebrities from the worlds of film, television, and music help educate the public and reduce the stigma and misunderstandings which still surround epilepsy.
Greg Grunberg will kick off the 11th Annual Greater Chicago Epilepsy 5K on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Montrose Harbor (4400 north, just east of Lake Shore Drive) in Chicago. Over 2,000 people are expected to take part in this year’s 5K. The event begins with a chip-timed run at 9:30 am, followed immediately by a walk/fun run.
