Seizure Training for School Personnel

school personnel

The Seizure Training for School Personnel program is available free of charge face-to-face and online!  The training covers seizure recognition, first aid, and treatment options. Also included is a discussion on the impact seizures and epilepsy can have on students academically, and the importance of implementing a seizure action plan in the school setting. The program provides teachers and other school personnel with information needed to recognize seizures, respond with appropriate first aid, and understand the impact seizures have on students. It is for elementary, middle, and secondary school staff, including teachers, administrators, cafeteria workers, security guards, custodians, or anyone else that will come in contact with students.

  • The Face-to-Face Training is 1 hour-long, covers the above topics, and provides 1 Contact Hour from the IL State Board of Education.  To set up a face-to-face training at your school please call or email Tracy at 312-939-8622 x224 or
  • The Online Training is also 60 minutes long, but you can leave and come back; the program will save your progress. You will take a short test before the program just to see how much you currently know about seizures and epilepsy, and one following the program to see how much you’ve learned. It is important to listen to all of the content and not skip sections or lose attention – this is for the safety of students and staff alike so it is in your best interest to focus.  School personnel who complete the program and score an 80% or better on the test that follows the lesson can earn 0.1 ANSI/IACET Continuing Education Units, or 0.1 Category I Continuing Education contact hours for Certified Health Education Specialists through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More information on obtaining Continuing Education Credits will be located later in the program.
